Othyr is one of nine "significant planets" within the solar system described in Carve the Mark, sometimes called a nation-planet. It is known for its medical innovations. Cyra goes on her first sojourn to Othyr, and visits again with her mother. Her mother and the Othyrian Dr. Dax Fadlan have the same shade skin, indicating common heritage.
The people of Othyr are noted to have a fondness for "small, useless objects" that as a child Cyra liked to play with.
